On 3rd August the Pro Loco of Caposele (Italy, Pro Loco means a cultural community of the village) will present the 88th issue of the local newspaper „La Sorgente (The Source) at the sala polifunzionale (a multi-purpose room of the village). This newspaper was founded in 1973 and is of course online available too. But for the local people this newspaper is always a special event combined with a festivity and some of my relatives will take part.

Caposele is the hometown of my grandparents and as a child I was often there for holidays and I’m still in touch with the local people. Caposele is well-known about the source of the river Sele, which flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea and about the Apulian Aqueduct. In my first book „Die Papierfabrik“ I wrote about the village and surroundings.

In this issue you can read an interview with me, conducted by Gerardo Ceres, one of the editors of the newspaper and some excerpts in italian of the book. I was very surprised discovering a lot of local writers/authors, so it was given in my genes the writing!

I feel very honored to be part of this artists gallery and contribute with my literature part!

Now it’s official! My road-movie „The Paper Factory-Die Paperfabrik“ is in the selection of the jury of the 1st Calitri  Sponz Film Festival 2014 (Italy) www.calitrifilmfest.it
The festival is directed by the musician and artist Vinicio Capossela www.viniciocapossela.it
Vinicio is a well-known artist in Italy and recently in Greece, he directed last year in his hometown Calitri the first open-air inviting local artists on stage and during three evenings were 30’000 visitors dancing to the folkloristic music till in the morning ;o)

It’s always a great pleasure to be there and there’s a special feeling in the air when you are wandering around this beautiful baroque town. This time I was busy to promote my new book and as well my whole work of a decade and was delighted to see again familiar faces.

Matchmaking: networking with international literature

It was lovely to see again Franco Supino. In the past
we worked together in another project. Franco’s essay
„Solothurn liegt am Meer“ (Solothurn is on the beach)
is a nice slogan to the literature days of Solothurn, which
is located close to the river Aare

During my marathon, I’ve foundt time to visit
Stefano Benni’s reading out of his last two novels
„Pantera“ and „Di tutte le ricchezze“. Stefano is in
Italy a well-known author. He writes as well theatre
scripts as articles for the three leading news-papers
„Panorama“, „La Repubblica“ & „Il Manifesto“

The local newspaper „Periodico El barrio“ will publish on 5th January 2014 an interview with me led through the director Marcelo Benini.

This monthly newspaper was the beginning of „Die Papierfabrik“ in February 2003, as I met along the street in the quarter the journalist Ignacio, who was fervid interested to write about my story…and the rest you know! Since then this newspaper has always paid tribute to me in my projects. The edition of the newspaper reaches around 60’000 readers in 5 districts of Buenos Aires.

“Women and Politics in Swiss German Literature and Film”

Hybrid Identities in Narratives by Second Generation Female Swiss Authors

At the same time, when women officially entered the Swiss political scene, immigrants and guest worker changed the social fabric and the multicultural Swiss literature developed a new branch – often marginalized – migration literature. Today, wide spread immigration (21 % of inhabitants are foreigners) and intercultural and trans-cultural encounters have not only impacted Switzerland’s political and economic landscape, but also the arts and literature. In the 21^st century, the Swiss public has begun to acknowledge the intercultural realities that immigrant and native artists alike as they depict these new and complex cultural negotiations about race and ethnicity in their works. This paper addresses the challenges of a new cultural hybridity as lived by women in Switzerland and mirrored in the narratives of immigrant and second generation women writers.

The definitions of hybridity as developed by Homi K. Bhabhas, The Location of Culture (1994) and Marwan M. Kraidy, Hybridity: Or the Cultural Logic of Globalization (2005) form the basis of the investigation of writings by so-called “secondos,” second generation immigrants who write in German and adhere to a hybrid Swiss identity. Although the term hybridity is often used negatively by scholars of Postcolonial Studies and imperial writing, I argue that the term “hybridization” might be used constructively to connote contact zones and trans-cultural exchanges in the context of Switzerland. This notion is borne out by the political discourse surrounding the election of Ricardo Mumengo (born in Angola) who is the first black representative in the Swiss National Council (House of Representatives).

The focus of this investigation demonstrates a shift from multiculturalism (defined as different cultures and languages living together) to hybridity (defined as mixture of cultures and races) apparent in the writings female Swiss authors such as Aglaia Verteranyi, Sina Merino, Melinda Abonji, and Sabine Wen-Ching Wang whose narratives are intrinsically political as they oscillate between cultures and depict a proliferate search for identity within Switzerland.
